THE C-WORD

I can not get away without posting a few thoughts and shots for Christmas. At my son's school the C-word is not allowed in any shapes, accents or combinations until about the sixth of December. That is when they decorate the windows, put up the Christmas tree and start practicing for the Christmas carol. Until then the C-word is banned!!

I have to say there is some truth into that.
If you start thinking about Christmas
from the end of October what magic is left in the name?!

Magic is what I am looking for...

thank you for the visit!!

A PLACE WITH MANY FACES

I know I complain about the weather like anyone else but I have to admit that some of my best shots are taken on days with very mixed weather. Going out between showers or right after it has rained for me is the best.  The colours are so bold and vivid, the air is so very clear, the contrast is perfect and the visibility is outstanding.  There are days when I take off on a lovely bright morning, which soon turns horrid and eventually I get soaked, cold and shivering but I inevitably come back with some great shots. Or it can start gloomy and foggy and turn into a glorious colourful experience with wonderful light and rainbows and blues skies. Sometimes it just changes all the time from hot to cold and freezing and then hot again! There is just one rule - be prepared and protect the camera at all times. Then everything is just fine.

The following images are from my most frequently visited route. That is why I have framed this place  in some many forms, shapes and colours.

It is hard to believe it's the same area in every collage. I don't even think the road has a name but the area is called Bunnagippaun. It is situated just out of Oughterard on the way to Casla / Costelloe, Co. Galway, Ireland.

Enjoy the view!

Waiting for the sun

It's the end of the year. The nights are long and dark. The days are short and gloomy. The leaves are already off the trees and everything is shrouded in different shades of grey, black and darkbrown. The sky is low, the clouds are running fast, the wind is howling like a beast..

You get the picture. Quite depressing really. It can easily put anyone out for a while.
But do not despair!
Fortunately, the bad weather does not last forever. Although sometimes I don't remember the last time I saw blue sky...
Lucky for me, there is the occasional break in the clouds and everything basks in the glory of light and colour.

HOMETOWN BLUES

a mountain view and blue sky in Vratsa, Bulgaria

Christmas is coming. Usually it makes people think of home, old friends and relatives we haven't seen for ages and we really miss. Especially all of us that live abroad in strange far away places, tossed out there by pure chance or weird consequences. Sometimes simply driven out by survival or by the strong necessity to satisfy our inquisitiveness and curiosity. Sometimes driven by hope for success and better futures, a better life. Who knows...

There are many reasons why we are out there somewhere instead of home. It is all personal and sometimes a little painful. That is the price of it all.

So Christmas is coming and I also think of home. I always have the Hometown blues at this time of the year. And I need some visual incentive to keep me going through the holidays.
Otherwise I feel a bit lost. And lonely.
Even though I am not alone.

Simply, I just miss home.
